| pt_PT |
dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Implant-supported restorations are implant-supported prostheses that are surgically placed into the jawbone to replace missing teeth. There are two main types of implants in terms of retention method: cemented and screw retained. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, and the choice of retention type should be based on several factors related with the case to be treated.
Objectives: The aim of this study is to compare the results of screw-retained implants and cemented implants and possible complications.
Materials and methods: A search were conducted in the PubMed database for prospective and retrospective clinical studies and clinical trials published in the last 10 years.
Results: Regarding the results, the reviewed studies showed no statistically significant differences regarding the mechanical and biological complications, peri-implant standards, inflammatory conditions, and aesthetic results, between the two groups of implants considered.
Discussion: Fixed restorations supported by implants have become the standard treatment for patients with partial or total loss of teeth, allowing them to improve their quality of life.
Conclusion: Given the results, it is not possible to conclude which is the best prosthetic alternative for fixed prostheses on implants. In this way, the choice must be based on the specific case to be treated, also considering the advantages and disadvantages already well-stablished for each of the retention methods. | pt_PT |
