Résumé
The objectives of this dissertation are to understand the basic concepts, operating principles, fundamentals and interests and limitations of CBCT that has become increasingly important in the practice of dentistry and to understand the importance of CBCT in assessing bone density. A PubMed database search was performed using the following search terms: (computed tomography, cone beam[MeSH Terms]) AND (oral surgery[MeSH Terms]) ; (computed tomography, cone beam[MeSH Terms]) AND (bone density[MeSH Terms]) ; ((oral surgery[MeSH Terms]) AND (bone density[MeSH Terms]) AND (computed tomography, cone beam[MeSH Terms]) . Of 58 potentially relevant articles, 22 were used meeting the objectives under study. Cone Beam computed Tomography (CBCT) is a radiographic imaging technique that allows three-dimensional (3D) images of hard tissue structures with minimal distortion. The term bone density refers to the biomechanical properties of bone, which are determined by the total amount of bone mass present in each volume of bone structure Bone density assessment using CBCT is an efficient method that correlates significantly with implant stability parameters and with the Lekholm and Zarb index, and it is also possible to predict the initial stability of implants.
